Where in your life did you push the Mute button so no one can hear you?

Is it time to Unmute Yourself?

Exploring the male energy archetypes can be a surprising way to see the places in us that we’ve shut down, walled off, said, “No way, I don’t want to be like that!”

In the class I’m leading, we heard a variety of words that are associated with the lover male archetype and noted which ones we felt drawn towards and which ones pushed us away.

When I first started inviting this lover energy in to myself, I was really ready for more play, more adventure, more zest and vibrancy in my life so these words – or qualities – felt like soothing music to my soul.

It’s the words that repel us, though, that hold the gold

Take the word Gusto.

That turned out to be a huge trigger for some in the class. To the point of stomach clenching, physical repulsion.

When I first read that word connected to this lover energy I immediately thought of that old beer commercial, Go For the Gusto. The image of these beer drinking guys at some football game, getting drunk and acting obnoxious came to mind.

No, that did not appeal to me at all.

But if I let myself just take in that word, without the media image planted in my brain, I felt a lot of energy, an exuberance that I don’t often allow myself to feel or experience.

For those who were really triggered in a negative way,
we dug deeper into what was behind it.

Turns out long ago, as a child, they pushed their own mute button. It was safer physically and emotionally to be quiet, not make a fuss, be the good girl. And so year after year, layer after layer of holding down their natural expressiveness took its toll. Until as an adult, anyone they see who is too loud, too big, too much is shunned and even judged harshly. Including their own inner critic for how they behave.

All that awareness from one word. It’s in reflecting on our physical body reactions that we can receive the messages underneath.

Of course this just opens the door to see how we play out these decisions we made as children. As we sit with the different qualities that make us uncomfortable and have a dialogue with them, we can hear their invitation to open up to those parts of ourselves we’ve shut down long ago.

We begin to realize we are still acting out someone else’s story of how to behave, how to please, how to navigate the world to feel safe.

It’s like we’re walking around with all these beach balls we’re trying desperately to keep shoved down under the water. And not have anyone notice that’s what we’re doing!  As we release the imprisoned energy we’re holding around that story, we literally can feel a surge of renewed energy flowing through our body. Energy that takes us back to our natural essence.

This is all directly related to your first chakra – both our need for safety and survival and the connection to the masculine energy at the first chakra level. You’ll have the opportunity to go deeper into that when I introduce the chakra class later this year.

For now… my question to you is…

Where have you unconsciously pushed your own MUTE button?

And how can you UNMUTE yourself?

The key is allowing yourself to play, be creative, do something that brings you pleasure.

The lover archetype energy is related to both your spiritual side and your be-in-your-body sensuous side. From my experience, if you’re at all interested in your spiritual aspects of life, you don’t have any trouble doing this. In fact, you probably love going out of your body in meditation, connecting to something outside your self. I’m suggesting the greater challenge is coming down into your body and feeling yourself grounded and centered inside of your own skin.

What might be a fun, playful or sensual experience to engage in this weekend?

Yes it can be sexual but I’m inviting more of a sensual in the body experience for you.

Think past a spa day.

How about finger painting?

Making something like bread where you have to get your hands into the dough?

Putting on some great dance music and moving your body to the rhythm?

Going for a walk in your neighborhood and taking photos of small details you notice… the color of a flower, the vein patterns on a leaf, cracks in the sidewalk?

How can you come more Alive? Vibrant? Unmuted?
