Loving Your Body in Your Feminine Second Chakra 

In part 3, we continue to explore our second chakra because it is such a key energy center on so many levels.

Ideally, once we feel grounded, safe and secure in our first chakra, we move up to our second chakra … a complex mix of energies related to feeling physical sensations, being in our bodies, our sexuality, creativity, setting boundaries, money, intimacy, being aware of our needs, desires and knowing that what we do and have is good enough.

Can you feel the swirling, curving, female energy just reading the list above?

Indeed, your second chakra is primarily feminine energy. Remember we all have masculine and feminine energy channels operating in us. And each chakra is oriented to one or the other of them. Due to centuries of living under the patriarchal model, men and women face different issues in clearing the wounds in the second chakra.

Stepping past the beginning level of physical sensations, we all become aware that we have a body. And we’re amazed by it. Ideally we fall in love with our physical body in the utter awareness that, “Wow! I’m ALIVE! I’m here in the world. I love my body. All of it.”

At best, we honor that body as the vessel that allows us to experience life and in turn treat it with respect. We eat nourishing foods, find time to exercise, get enough rest, have fun, and feel pleasure in our sexuality, work and leisure time.

A key aspect of the second chakra is feeling we deserve the good that life has to offer us.

Our very presence in the world is enough to know we deserve to be here and partake of a life filled with intimacy, pleasure and getting our needs and desires met.

Feeling deserving opens us up to receiving the pleasures of life. At the same time we have healthy boundaries that let us know when enough is enough. A strong, clear second chakra feels nourished and satisfied. There’s no need to overdo it with food, sex, or striving to buy more things to fill up what feels like a hole in our soul.

When we’re bombarded with media images of the “perfect body”, for women especially but not exclusively, it’s easy to feel that we are somehow inadequate … not good enough. Billions of dollars are spent worldwide, trying to turn our bodies into some so-called ideal image.

What if we could simply love ourselves as we are?

 

How Comfortable are You Looking at Yourself in the Mirror?

The Mirror Challenge

Try this exercise to give yourself some idea of how you feel about your body.

Stand in front of a full length mirror either naked or in your underwear and say out loud, “I love my body.” Whew! That’s a tough one for most of us. We might say, “No way, I feel disgusted when I look at my body.” Or, “Yeah, I love my body except for my thighs … my flabby arms … my butt … my teeth.” Whatever it is, there is a holding back, an energy of not actually accepting and loving who we are, just as we are.

Resistance to our very selves in the second chakra sets up a huge block to receiving the good that life is attempting to gift us. It spins out to affect all sorts of ways we stop us from allowing our beautiful selves to express who we are in the world.

Try this exercise every day for a week and see if your resistance to those areas of your body you feel are inadequate begins to soften. After loving your whole body, look directly in your eyes in the mirror and say “I love you” again.

How does that make you feel? Uncomfortable? Hard to make that eye contact? It might not be as easy as it sounds. So go slow and see how your reaction shifts each day.
