How Often Do You Feel Simple Sensuous Pleasure?

More About Your Second Chakra

Once we move past survival mode in the first chakra, we begin to Feel ourselves in the world in our second or sacral chakra … to experience bodily sensations and pleasures. We let go of the dependence on others we needed in the first chakra and dare to trust, to be open and vulnerable, without losing ourselves in the process, in our second chakra.

We’re the little baby who puts everything in its mouth to taste, to touch, to smell, to discover our physical senses and the world around us.

How much of that quality do you allow yourself day to day? To be completely immersed in the experience you’re living in the moment?

Noticing the intricate beauty and fragrance of a flower, the curl of your tongue around the cold sensation and flavor of an ice cream cone, standing barefoot on the grass with your face lifted to the sun, feeling the warmth pouring down on you, the wake-up call of fresh coffee in the morning? Teeny, tiny pleasures that are yours all day long if you open up to them. 

Our physical sensations, sexual intimacy, deep personal relationships, creativity, feeling worthy and deserving, and money beyond survival all come into play through our second chakra. So it’s easy to imagine that most of us have blocks, wounds, and hurts we try and cover over related to any one of these issues in our lives.

Being fully present to the present, aware and awake to our experience is one simple way to begin to unclog some of those blocks to the energy flowing through our second chakra. 

Try it for yourself. Start small and work up to more. Set a timer if you have to. Decide for 30 minutes – or 10 if that sounds like too much – that you’ll be fully aware of the physical sensations of being in your body, in the world. Notice what’s around you. Open your eyes with wonder as if you were seeing the world for the first time. Sit and listen to all the sounds around you. Pay attention to how much more alive you feel. Keep notes in a notebook or journal.
